Boston indie rockers Lane today have announced the lead single “Scream” off their forthcoming album Love is in the Rain, out 2026. The single packs an artrock punch, delivering a top-of-the-lungs hook that mixes the rock n roll bounce of Presidents of the United States of America with the minimalist economy of The Breeders.
The single is a fresh addition to a body of music that Merry Go Round Magazine previously called “peak earworm…sorta like Strokes by way of Guided by Voices.” Hump Day News described Lane as “a guitar-driven band that takes a surgeon’s scalpel to rock n roll cliches” and ranked their last album Receiver among its Top Albums of 2024. QRO Magazine praised the vintage “Lower East Side flavor” and “arch, angular intensity” of the band.
Lane is a collaborative project by Wes Kaplan and Julian Fader (Ava Luna, NADINE). Kaplan (guitar, bass, lead screams) and Fader (drums, backing screams) co-produced the forthcoming album, benefitting from Fader’s production and engineering experience with indie artists like Frankie Cosmos, Mr Twin Sister, Sam Evian, Palehound, Katie Von Schleicher, and more.
The single “Scream” represents a fresh take on Lane’s sound. Says Wes Kaplan: “I've been having fun getting away from the whole "math" thing, seeing how music I can juice out of just one or two notes (instead of fifty). Queens of the Stone Age and Rage are good at this. But I also think a lot of the background radiation of my childhood is catching up with me—Presidents of the United States of America and Harvey Danger. Sometimes you gotta embrace the goofiness.”
